A long trip into and out of Split

We decided to drive to Split to see the Dalmatian Coast that Croatia is so famous for. We got an early start as the rental car was due back by 4pm. Morgan was sick so she slept in the back seat the whole way down. The drive was lovely with a coast line that looked like a cross between Highway 1 in California and the spotted hills of New Mexico. It was a lovely drive except that it kept raining. It seems that a cold front moved into town just that day (it is still with us as I write this…grrr). After a bit too long of a drive, we made it to Split and miraculously found the rental car return. Having a car was nice but I am so glad to get rid of it.

We were lead to our hostel by this crazy guy who wanted us to eat at his restaurant (and took us the long way to the hostel to show us where it was). We made it to the room and then walked to the bus station to get our bus tickets to Dubrovnik for the next day. As soon as we started walking around town, it started raining. I mean dumping!

So we waited for a break and then ran to dinner…yes we went to the restaurant. It was not so good. But our crazy friend showed up and gave us a little lesson in Croatia…we can now say cheers, green finger nails and most of the letters of the alphabet that differ from ours.

The next morning it was up and out of there. It would be nice to be able to see more of the city. Next time around!

Mom is amazing me with her willingness to go along with anything. I am so impressed.
